My parents gave me, my sister’s and brother-in-laws a great Christmas present, a week with them in Estes Park. This was my first visit here and I loved it. Hope to bring some friends back with me in the future. -Kathy Kottemann

Ataloa is one-bedroom efficiency cabin located inches from the waters edge. This cabin is so close to the river, with heavy snow run off in the spring, water splashes onto the screened porch. With 1 queen size bed, this cabin is designed to accommodate a maximum of 2 people.

The sound of the rushing river is audible throughout the entire cabin. Like all the other single bedroom cabins, it offers cable TV, a fully functional kitchen, dining area, and a screened porch with a swing.

Ataloa has a good size courtyard next to it with picnic tables, barbecue grills, and outdoor chairs. Because Ataloa is so close to the river's edge, one should keep this in mind if you have small children.

I've been coming to Estes for many years. I don't know how these cabins managed to elude me, but I am so glad I found them! My husband and I stayed here in the Ataloa cabin for our honeymoon the first week of October. I loved it so much I didn't want to leave. The cabin was right next to the river. I opened the window so I could hear the river at night. I love that sound so much. It was close enough to town but far enough away to get the peace that I was looking for. The cabin was VERY clean and well maintained. The owners keep the grounds very nice as well with firepits, a grill, everything you could possibly need. Every morning the elk would pass through the property. One was right behind our cabin munching on the bushes. A male was trying to herd his women that were all over the place and they jumped the river and went up the hill right across from our cabin. His bugle was amazing. One evening we even got visited by a group of wild turkeys. We plan on coming back every year for our anniversary.

We loved it here and cannot wait until we return. Our only wish was that it was closer to our home so we could go more often. The cabin was everything we needed for two people, right by the creek and was so relaxing. Sitting out front on the morning while drinking coffee and reading a book is just such a simple memory that I will always take my mind back there. Highly recommend staying here! So close to all the activity but also far enough for some peace.

This was our 4th trip in 5 years to RMNP and Estes Park. Each year we have stayed at Idlewilde by the River and each year we leave refreshed and rejuvenated. This year we stayed in Cannonball and we liked the upgrades over previous years. Deb and Larry were great hosts…although I’m sure every guest shows off the videos and pictures, they take the time to show their interest as if they are seeing something for the first time. Overall, I would rate this quiet and peaceful little haven a 10 out 10 stars. We will be back because the Mountains is in our blood and we will stay in Idlewilde because it is perfect.
